Black Hawk Down

There are many lessions to be learned from this event/book, modern military tactics where adapted and changed by the lessions of this mission. In the story the rangers are gearing up for what they expect to be a short 30 min mission, since they expected it to be swift and easy they droped things like thier, NODS (night vision), Extra water, extra ammo, the steel plate in thier Kevlar vests ect. These mistakes come make to haunt them, the mission lasts near 24 hrs, they lack water they are running out of ammo and one of thier biggest advantages over the somalies thier night vision isnt there to help. ulitmatly a perfect military disaster but they learned from it.

The book shows how the military is a hard place and really puts you in the soliders shoes so you can feel the heat of combat its like your there, you seem to feel the bullets bouncing of the walls and the rumble of the med-evac coming in, the hummers dashing down the streets, the guy next to you shooting his horribly loud m60.

The book was action packed with a lot of tension: Where they gonna make it out? Was he gonna get shot as he turned the corner? What happend to those two machine-gunners? Etc.

Black Hawk Down

Black Hawk down is an interesting book about a true story. The story is about US peace keeping troops in Mogadishu, Somalia. The US rangers and delta elite units were to capture enemy leaders on a 30 min day-time mission, which turned into a huge long disaster.
I enjoyed the book, mostly because I learned a lot about military tactics and operation. That being said, it was quite grusome with lots of blood and gore.
